Hard to believe it’s been seven years since Swedish experimentalists The Knife released the haunting and gorgeous Silent Shout. Next month, siblings Karin Dreijer Andersson and Olof Dreijer will release its proper follow-up, Shaking The Habitual.
Seems there’s nothing habitual about their creative process, taking the time off to craft even more obtuse electropop. New single “A Tooth For An Eye” has some familiar tribal elements and Andersson’s treated vocals, but it’s also a contradiction of densely constructed minimalism. As for the video, it’s an appropriately weird look at an electic male dance crew led by a pre-teen girl in a referee’s uniform. Just watch:
The previous look at Shaking The Habitual, “Full Of Fire”, has some amazing sounds buried in its nearly 10 minutes, with an even more inaccessible video:
Look for Shaking The Habitual April 8th on The Knife’s own Rabid label.
