Perhaps you didn’t know, but Black Rebel Motorcycle Club bassist Robert Been is the son of the late Michael Been, singer of The Call. Early in his career Robert distanced from his father, going my the surname “Turner”, but the elder Been toured with the band from 2005 until he died from a heart attack August 19, 2010 after a performance at Pukkelpop Festival in Belgium.
In an homage, BRMC have released a cover of The Call’s best known song as the first single off their forthcoming sixth proper album, Specter At The Feast. Their version of “Let The Day Begin” is more muscular as you’d expect, but it’s a faithful rendition of an underrated classic:
