brand new bloc party 'octopus'

Bloc Party‘s 2005 debut Silent Alarm was a revelation. A taut, pristine mashup of indie pop, post punk and math rock that stayed in my constant rotation for over a year. Since then, they became increasingly enamored with electronic music to the point that frontman Kele Okereke put out his own dance album and rumor had it the group had disbanded.

Now some four years after the last Bloc Party release, they’re back with fourth album Four. Judging by lead single “Octopus,” it’s not quite a return to Silent Alarm form. Pro Tools effects are very much front and center, but the angular guitar and backup vocals are nicely familiar:

Four is due out August 21st on Frenchkiss.
