new john maus & real estate via domino's 'smugglers way'

Record Store Day returns April 21st, and Domino Records is bringing back the flexi-disc. For those of us old enough to remember, flexi-discs were the cheap, thin records you’d find in books and magazines in the 60’s and 70’s. Smugglers Way is a unique, limited edition package that includes five individual multi-colored flexi-discs of previously unreleased material, among other exclusive content:

“The zine also comprises 24 pages of original art and prose from Domino & Ribbon artists. Highlights include a two thousand word short story penned by James Yorkston, a long form poem by Laura Marling, short form pieces by Real Estate, Clinic, and Wild Beasts, illustrations from The Kills, Twin Sister & Jon Hopkins, photography from Lower Dens, and an original score of music by Owen Pallett.”

You can read more about it here and watch a demo of the flexi-discs here. What’s of most interest to me is the new track from John Maus, “No Title (Molly).” It’s a partially re-recorded, remixed and remastered version of a Maus demo, and it’s pretty excellent:

Also of note is “In My Car,” a previously unreleased bit of jangle pop from Real Estate:

Here’s the full Smugglers Way flexi-disc track list:

Dirty Projectors – “You Against The Larger World”
Real Estate – “In My Car”
Cass McCombs – “Teachers”
John Maus – “No Title (Molly)
Villagers – “Shards”
