supergrass solo: download gaz coombes 'sub-divider'

 

I’m a bit of a Supergrass superfan, and was more than a bit bummed when they hung it up for good a couple years ago. Now frontman Gaz Coombes is set to return with his solo debut, Here Come The Bombs, out May 29th.

The first look is the song “Sub-Divider” which sounds a little like Supergrass crossed with early Frank Black. In other words, it’s kind of awesome. Things start out somewhat pedestrian, but there’s a big tempo change in the middle and a monster finish:

Can’t wait for more. The first proper single, “Hot Fruit,” is due to arrive May 14th. Meanwhile, here’s the last song (“Caught By The Fuzz”) of the last gig (June 11, 2010 at La Cigale Paris) of the late, great Supergrass:

    Let’s hope he can make the transition to solo music man as well as Stephen Malkmus did. This cut is a promising start.
