vote: the smiths best songs bracket — sweet 16

After a fair number of votes, the Smiths best songs bracket round 1 is complete. As mentioned before, this idea sprang from investigating Morrissey set lists prior to seeing his Dallas show. In conversation with fellow Smiths-devotees, my selection of the 32-song field and subsequent seedings was called into question — but let’s soldier on anyway.

Round 1 saw several routs, with “Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want” and “Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now” scoring the most decisive victories. “What Difference Does It Make?” somewhat surprisingly edged out “The Queen Is Dead,” but the upsets — at least according to my apparently flawed seedings — were “Headmaster Ritual” squeaking by “Shoplifters Of The World Unite” and “Girlfriend In A Coma” stomping “Stop Me If You Think You’ve Heard This One Before.”

So here’s the field of 32 trimmed down to the sweet 16:

This would have been more timely in March, but vote now anyway. Looking at the round 2 matchups, this is your humdinger:

#7 “Panic” vs…

#10 “This Charming Man”
