Once again, rumors (or rumours) are swirling about the reunion of one of the greatest English bands of all time. NME and other outlets are reporting that a major music PR firm has called a London press conference for next Tuesday to announce the reformation of The Stone Roses.
Of course, we’ve heard this many times before. The most recent rumblings occurred after the funeral of bassist Mani’s mother, which brought all four members together for the first time since 1996. Reportedly, after reminiscing and sharing pints, guitarist John Squire and singer Ian Brown “buried the hatchet” and opened the door to a reunion.
Until tour dates are confirmed — and really until they actually happen — I won’t believe it. But the prospect is tantalizing. Maybe all the allusions to the Second Coming and the resurrection will be prophetic after all:
A clue that this might actually be legitimate comes from the twitter account of The Charlatans lead singer Tim Burgess:
“big news tues. nice when old friends who became foes become friends”
And even more confirmation from NME, which quotes a text allegedly from Ian Brown that stated:
“We are going to rule the world again. It’s happening.”
Elsewhere in the rumor mill, Elbow’s Guy Garvey reportedly said the Roses have been rehearsing all summer in Manchester. So stay tuned… the announcement comes down tomorrow (10/18) with a tour and possibly a new album to follow.
