Brooklyn’s The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart will release their second full length, Belong, at the end of March.
Despite their decidedly indie pedigree, the new album was produced by Flood — of U2, Smashing Pumpkins and Depeche Mode fame — and mixed by Alan Moulder — knob twiddler for the likes of Jesus And Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine and Nine Inch Nails.
As the youngsters in Pains told Pitchfork, they had to overcome some nerves and a minor inferiority complex to record with such legends. The result is a predictably more polished sound that takes their twee jangle and gives it some balls — kinda like Tobey Maguire getting all buff to play Spiderman.
The newest peek at the album was floated by label Slumberland yesterday.. the shoegazey title track, “Belong”:
The sound of failure indeed.
